Rotary Wing Training.
on completion of Elementary Flying Training (EFT) Rotary Wing pilots will then move to RAF Shawbury. Navy and Army students may move to a 'Rotary Only' course in the near future.
They will undergo 3 weeks of Ground School and then they will fly the EC 135 or Juno. Over the next year they will learn to fly the aircraft including conducting a specific role training package. On completion of this they will go to an Operational Conversion Unit (OCU)with their respective service, wither the Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force. Following OCU they will be employed on one of the front line squadrons. The students progress through 660 Squadron, Army Air Corps where they learn the basics of flying and navigating a helicopter. They then move to 705 Naval Air Squadron to learn advanced handling techniques, Mountain Flying and flying on Night Vision Goggles. They then move to either 60 Sqn (RAF) or 670 Squadron, Army Air Corps for tactical training. |
